If a lending library using ILLiad cannot send to a borrowing library
using Odyssey Standalone, there could be several reasons for Odyssey
Sending Failed:

The borrower does not have their PC with Standalone turned on

The borrower does not have Odyssey open on their PC

The borrower does not have a checkmark next to Server Enabled in
their Odyssey.

The borrower does not have Odyssey loaded on a PC with a static IP
address.

The borrower does not have the necessary ports open in the firewall
to allow incoming articles

The borrower did not put the correct IP address in the Email field of
their Constant Data using the correct format.

When we as an ILLiad lender have a sending failed, we always call
the borrower to make sure the above is okay on their end
and then we try resending via Odyssey. If all else fails, we'll
rescan the article, mount the PDF to our ILLiad server, and
email the borrower a link to it.

Does that help?

Our attempts to send articles to another library via Odyssey often
results in “Odyssey sending failed.” We’ve experienced this in the
past and it appears to still be prevalent. Would you know what the
problem might be? The problem consists in that once the Odyssey
record is updated it can’t be changed. How should we proceed after
failed Odyssey sending? Thank you for your assistance.
This is from another library trying to send from ILLiad to my library
with Odyssey stand alone. Any suggestions?
Subject: [Odyssey-L] Your thoughts on Standalone

Odyssey Standalone users:

At the 2010 ILLiad International Conference next month, I will be
co-presenting a session entitled "What every ILLiad library should
know about Odyssey Standalone".
Some ILLiad libraries have never seen Standalone, and I want to share
with them some of the similarities and differences between it and
Odyssey-within-ILLiad as well as
some of the experiences I've had helping people use Standalone.

If there is anything you would like ILLiad folks to know about Standalone
(e.g. what you like or dislike; the ease or hurdles you encountered
implementing it; differences
you've noticed when sending or receiving articles with ILLiad vs with
Standalone libraries, etc.), let me know and I'd be happy to
share.

Feel free to respond to me directly off-list at
