Hi -
We were able to get Odyssey working this summer, but it did take a bit of help, especially from Brian at OSU. We used the OSU instructions at https://osu.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/osu/lending/odysseyfaq.html
and the instructions from Atlas. It seemed that the OSU instructions were more complete and useful to us.

We are using it simultaneously with Ariel on the same computer and have not had any problems with having both programs. This allowed us to use the static IP we already had for Ariel, with the modification of the ports that needed to be open for Odyssey.

We are primarily interested in receiving via Odyssey and it did take a bit of work to get all the pieces to fall into place so that it was working properly. Being sure that you have your OCLC constant data formatted properly is vital.

We have found a few minor drawbacks:

even after setting up our address book, we still have trouble identifying in-coming requests without having to go back to firstsearch to obtain the IL: number/patron information. This is frustrating for our student assistants because Odyssey clearly has fields that should be populated with this information, but isn't. It's rare that we get a coversheet as the first page of the file which would have this information available. I think the issue maybe that places that use Illiad don't send coversheets because they assume that information is transferred straight from Illiad to Odyssey, as it may be if sending from one Illiad location to another.

The Odyssey file name is a random set of numbers - if it could be the IL number or if people could name the file themselves when sending, it could help identify the request better.

We've had very limited success using the feature that would allow us to communicate with a library that sent us a file (this seems like a really great feature, if it would work properly). It would very handy to use for a file that is missing pages, etc.

Overall, we've been really pleased with Odyssey and our student assistants prefer it to Ariel.

Regards
Karen Wagner
University of WI - Madison
Wendt Library - WTS

On Wed, Sep 2, 2009 at 4:33 PM, Tim Prather <Prather@amigos.org> wrote:
